These issues often occur after upgrading to another version of Windows, connecting to other computers over a network or even just connecting an external hard drive into your computer.

I would suggest you to try the steps from the following link: "Access Denied" or other errors when accessing or working with files and folders in Windows. Rakesh C N Microsoft Community. Details required : characters remaining Cancel Submit. Was this reply helpful?

Yes No. Sorry this didn't help. Thanks for your feedback. Every resolution on that link refers to the security tab, which I said is a thumb drive and there is no security tab on the file or the thumb drive itself. Microsoft clearly just hates the customers. After working fine for months, if I want to move a file from one computer to another on the homegroup- you need permission to perform this action. Well that is crap.

There is no way to get the permission!!!! I don't need permission to toss all these machines in the garbage and go back to apple. I'm having the same problem, although my computer came to have Windows 10 Pro on it deliberately.

In my case I can copy files onto a USB drive on one computer when logged into a non-administrator account. When I try to copy that file off the flash drive I am first requested to provide administrator permission, and after providing that I'm told that "you require permission from Everyone to make changes to this file".

This happens if I am logged into a different computer as the same user who originally created the file, if I'm logged into either computer as an administrator, or if I'm logged into a different non-administrator account. How do I get access to my own file?? Both run clean on both machines.

More information that may matter:. For possible resolution, you may perform a clean boot. It will start Windows by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. Also, it helps eliminate software conflicts that occur when you install a program, an update, or when you run a program in Windows.

The problem was unchanged: certain file extensions. Other file extensions. I then tried the clean boot that Michael Gall suggested on the computer that creates the problem files. After a clean boot the files are created without a problem and readable on other computers and by other users.

I keep getting timeout with my network Share drives. I can see the files but I get "You need permission to perform this action. Its not a ownership or permission issues, I have all administrative rights and I'm part of the Administrators group on my server.

I did not have this issue before with Vista and it goes away for a while if I log-off and relog on. The firewall is currently of on my Client machine and I still get that error. I don't want to edit anything in my registry to make the timeout longer, I want it to be always connected and secure. Patrick Miron. This thread is locked. I have the same question It can't because it's being used by Winamp. So that's all Though, from using Linux and from my experience setting up Vista for my son, I think I find Vista a bit more obnoxious. I assume that things would settle down once the intial settings were in-place, and no longer needed to be fiddled with. I don't have to do that for Firefox.

The only reason it would do that right now is if the compatability settings are telling it to. Not Microsoft's fault ;. Firefox should never be given Admin privledges. The fact that you get a prompt every time you start it shows that you probably set the shortcut to run as a admin, which may be one of the worst things you could possibly do! They've certainly had enough time, and the security benefits would be enormous I don't have any programs I use on a daily basis that require Admin privledges.

No one else should either. It shows that you're either using very old software that is poorly coded, or well, just new software that's very poorly coded. Getting a UAC prompt when you run Firefox is the exact same thing as doing 'sudo firefox' on linux every time you want to browse the 'net. Ditto with every other program that prompts for UAC. If you are knowledgeable enough to turn it off, you should be held responsible for what happens to your computer.
